The American point guard struggled to adapt to European basketball and now aims for an immediate NBA return

Dennis Smith Jr.‘s stint with Real Madrid lasted just four games, totaling 35 minutes and 11 points. Signed on January 16, he departs only 33 days later, having failed to reach the necessary fitness level or adapt to the team’s system. According to Chris Haynes, the guard is already looking to make a swift return to the NBA.

Smith Jr.’s short-lived tenure highlights Real Madrid’s struggles in the transfer market. Desperate for a point guard, they ended up with an unfit and ill-prepared signing. Now, with the EuroLeague transfer deadline next week, the club must decide quickly whether to seek a new addition.
