Davion Mitchell says defense will drive new-look Heat

Davion Mitchell believes defense will become the defining strength of the new-look Miami Heat. He highlighted Andrew Wiggins as another player capable of guarding an opponent’s top scorer and praised the competitive mentality within the backcourt.

Mitchell has his own Defensive Player of the Year ambitions and expects Miami to handle guards and wings with different physical profiles. The addition of Giannis Antetokounmpo alongside Bam Adebayo should create even greater problems for opposing offenses.

The Heat also instructed Mitchell to report in peak condition for their championship push. “There was no basketball talk,” he said. “It was ‘get your weight down. Be in shape.’” Mitchell described that demand as Heat Culture in its purest form.
