Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard recently shared encouraging updates on his recovery process after suffering a torn Achilles tendon, speaking with Allie Clifton on an episode of the Road Trippin’ Show.
Lillard described his rehabilitation as steady and positive, emphasizing the importance of patience when dealing with such a serious injury.
“It’s going great,” Lillard said. “I think it’s just one of those injuries where you’ve got to take your time—it takes what it takes. The first couple of weeks, maybe two or three months, are frustrating because you’re so limited. But with patience, giving yourself grace, and doing what’s necessary to keep progressing, you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
The veteran guard explained that he is satisfied with the decision to give himself a full year to recover, a choice that has only increased his confidence as he continues to progress.
“I feel great about it—even better now than when I made that decision,” Lillard added. “The biggest concern is how you’re going to move after something like this. Seeing everything come back, getting used to unpredictable movements, some contact, picking up the pace, being in the air and landing without overthinking—it all matters.”
Now that he has reached that stage in his rehab, Lillard said he feels reassured about his timeline and optimistic about Portland’s future.
“Looking at our team and the growth we’ve had,” he said, “I know that if I come back the right way, we’ll have a great opportunity next season.”
