Dallas takes cautious approach amid concerns over potential Achilles injury

Anthony Davis will remain sidelined for at least another 7-10 days as he recovers from a left calf strain, the Dallas Mavericks announced Sunday. Davis missed his ninth straight game during the team’s 138-133 overtime win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Coach Jason Kidd said Davis “wants to be out there, but needs this time to get stronger.” Sources told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon that Mavs governor Patrick Dumont has taken a firm stance, blocking Davis’ return until medical data confirms there’s no risk of aggravating the injury or suffering a related Achilles rupture — a fate that befell Tyrese Haliburton in last season’s Finals.

Since joining Dallas in the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade, Davis has appeared in only 14 games, with recurring injuries slowing his impact. The team, still adjusting after GM Nico Harrison’s firing, continues to prioritize long-term health over short-term results.
