The Cleveland Cavaliers finally cleared the second-round hurdle and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals with a dominant 125-94 Game 7 road win over the Detroit Pistons. For Donovan Mitchell, reaching the conference finals for the first time in his career was “a breath of fresh air.”
Mitchell explained the meaning of the moment: “Even last year, when we lost to Indiana, we had our goals set on getting to the Finals. We’re just one step closer.” Coach Kenny Atkinson pointed to the team’s growth: “This was the next step for us,” adding: “We still have more to prove.”
The win also featured major contributions from Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley and Sam Merrill, as Cleveland had four players score at least 20 points.
