Chris Paul calls 61-point tribute to grandfather his greatest sports moment

The former NBA point guard recalled his emotional high school performance following the death of his 61-year-old grandfather

Chris Paul identified his 61-point game during his senior year of high school as the greatest sporting moment of his life.

His grandfather had died at the age of 61. Paul reached the same number by converting a floater and drawing a foul, but deliberately gave up the ensuing free throw and the chance to chase Michael Jordan’s state record.

“I threw the ball out of bounds, walked off the court and hugged my dad,” Paul recalled. The family tribute remains more meaningful to him than anything he later achieved in the NBA.
