Chilean Gang Busted After Targeting U.S. Sports Stars – Selfies Led to Their Capture

From NFL to NBA, a high-tech burglary ring looted athletes' homes. But one crucial mistake exposed them

A shocking story has rocked the sports world: a Chilean gang was arrested after stealing over $3 million in luxury watches, jewelry, and cash from star athletes like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow, and Bobby Portis Jr.

The burglars used sophisticated tactics: rented cars with fake IDs, monitored victims’ security routines, and communicated through burner phones. However, their downfall came from an unexpected mistake—they took selfies with stolen goods and uploaded them to iCloud, which the FBI accessed with a search warrant.

Among the biggest heists was the burglary at Portis Jr.’s home, where over $1.48 million worth of valuables were stolen during a Milwaukee Bucks game. Burrow’s home was also hit while the Bengals were in Dallas. Investigators are still determining if the gang was behind similar thefts at Luka Doncic and Tyler Seguin’s homes.

Using GPS tracking, surveillance footage, and phone records, authorities traced and arrested the seven suspects, who now face up to 10 years in prison for interstate transportation of stolen property.
