Chicago Bulls guard Anfernee Simons aggravated a previous left wrist fracture, coach Billy Donovan said Tuesday after additional imaging. Simons exited Saturday’s 126-110 loss to the Detroit Pistons with what was initially labeled a sprain and did not play in the second half.
Donovan called it “an old injury” from Simons’ time with the Boston Celtics, noting the fracture “hasn’t quite healed” and that the expectation is he can return once the pain settles following evaluation by a hand specialist. The coach did not provide an exact return timetable.
In six games (five starts) with Chicago since arriving at the trade deadline in the deal that sent Nikola Vucevic to Boston, Simons is averaging 15.2 points in 28.4 minutes. The Bulls, meanwhile, are on a season-worst 10-game losing streak.
