Cleveland avoided giving up draft picks
According to Chris Fedor of cleveland.com, the Cavaliers sent roughly $4 million in cash to the Charlotte Hornets to convince them to absorb Schröder’s contract.
Cleveland’s priority was to avoid including draft picks in the deal, and the franchise ultimately managed to do so.

Schröder traded for Tre Mann
The Cavaliers sent Dennis Schröder and cash to Charlotte in exchange for Tre Mann, giving Cleveland additional salary flexibility while avoiding the loss of future draft assets.
The move allows the Cavaliers to continue reshaping their roster without sacrificing draft capital in order to move Schröder’s contract.
