The Benedetto XIV is proud to announce that it has reached an agreement for next season with Carlos Delfino.
The former Bucks, Pistons, Raptors and Rockets player arrived in January, during last year’s season, and gave a big hand in achieving Salvation.
The Argentine peaked in the league first against Agrigento in the Clock Phase and then against Latina during the Salvation Phase. After the victory against the Siculians, at the microphones of Rai, Delfino had moved the biancorossi fans with that statement: ‘I wanted to close my career at home, today I feel like a centese’.
The class of ’82 travelled at an average of more than ten points, topped by six rebounds and three abundant assists. These are the figures of a total player if there is one, capable of raising his team’s level even on defence, and he has been like that throughout his long career.
A career well over twenty years long, which began by following in Manu Ginobili’s footsteps, leaving Argentina and rejecting offers from American colleges, to take refuge in Reggio Calabria. Then Fortitudo and, to follow, the long experience in the NBA, among the teams mentioned earlier and interrupted only by a move to Khimki. At the 2004 Athens Olympics, Carlos crowned his dream of winning an Olympic gold medal, in the final against Charlie Recalcati’s historic Italy. Then the return to Europe and the definitive landing in Italy.
Here are his first words as captain of Sella Cento:
“I am happy to be part of this new project, I still feel able to defend the colours of this team and I am proud of it.”
Carlos Delfino, a legend of the sport, is once again a Benedetto XIV player and from today he is also its captain.
