Jeremy Sochan will miss Poland’s national team training camp and the upcoming EuroBasket due to a calf injury. The San Antonio Spurs forward is set to return to the United States in the coming days to begin his rehabilitation.
Earlier this week, Sochan reported calf discomfort following a practice session. Medical examinations revealed that he would need to rest from training and competition, and with less than three weeks before EuroBasket tips off, full recovery was deemed impossible in time for the tournament.
On Saturday, representatives from KoszKadra, the Spurs, Sochan’s family, and his agent met to discuss the situation. They mutually agreed that returning to San Antonio for treatment would be the best course of action for his long-term health.
“We ran all the necessary tests, and while the injury isn’t severe, the short timeline before EuroBasket makes it unrealistic for him to be ready,” said Łukasz Koszarek, Director of the Polish National Team. “Jeremy is a vital member of our squad, he has great chemistry with the players and staff, and we’re disappointed his time with the team this summer has to end so soon.”
Spurs GM Brian Wright added: “Jeremy received professional care here in Poland, and our cooperation with KoszKadra has always been excellent. But in this case, the best option is for him to return to San Antonio.”
Sochan himself expressed his frustration:
“I’m really disappointed that a calf injury will keep me from playing for Poland at this year’s EuroBasket. I’ve been working toward this for months, and the experience of training and competing with the national team has been incredible. This is a special group, and I was looking forward to being part of it. Thankfully, the doctors expect me to be fully healthy by the start of the NBA training camp. I want to thank my teammates, coaches, the entire staff, and especially the fans in Poland for their support. Even though I can’t be there in person, I’ll be cheering for Poland with all my heart.”
