The Detroit Pistons guard will miss at least another week while recovering from a collapsed left lung

Cade Cunningham will remain sidelined for at least another week as he continues to recover from a collapsed left lung. Detroit announced that the All-Star guard is progressing under the supervision of doctors and the team’s medical and performance staff, with a fresh re-evaluation scheduled in one week.

The Pistons star has not played since March 19, though he has recently rejoined the team on the bench in street clothes during home games. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff said it has been good to see Cunningham around the group again, adding that he is moving forward day by day in his recovery.

Cunningham is averaging 24.5 points and 9.9 assists per game, underlining the value of his season for Detroit. The absence also puts his postseason award eligibility in serious doubt: he has appeared in 61 games, and with only five regular-season contests left after Thursday’s win over Minnesota, the path to the 65-game threshold is now extremely narrow. Detroit has already clinched the Central Division and still leads the East.
