Butler University has named Ronald Nored as the new head coach of its men’s basketball program. For the former Bulldogs guard, it is a homecoming after first making his mark as a player and then building an extensive coaching career in the NBA and G League.
Nored comes from his role as an assistant coach with the Atlanta Hawks, but he has also worked with the Indiana Pacers, Charlotte Hornets and Boston Celtics, in addition to serving as head coach of the Long Island Nets in the G League. That background gives Butler a coach with both deep program roots and high-level professional experience.
As a player, Nored was a two-time Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year and helped Butler reach the NCAA title games in 2010 and 2011. His appointment now begins a new era for the Bulldogs after the end of Thad Matta’s tenure.
