Tatum worked with the Maine Celtics on Monday, then was immediately recalled to Boston to continue rehab

Jayson Tatum took a major step toward returning from a torn Achilles tendon as the Boston Celtics assigned him to practice with the Maine Celtics on Monday. The organization said he was immediately recalled to Boston and will continue rehabbing the injury suffered in last spring’s Eastern Conference semifinals.

Tatum led the Celtics to the 2024 title and had them on track for another run before the injury, which was initially expected to keep him out for about a year. Boston entered Monday night with the third-best record in the East, and a Tatum return could significantly boost its playoff outlook.

After Tatum voiced concerns last month about possibly disrupting team chemistry, president of basketball operations Brad Stevens dismissed that idea: “Obviously, any team with Jayson Tatum’s going to be better.” Stevens added Tatum still has “a ways to go,” and the team won’t rush the process.
