The Big Ten has announced a five-year contract extension for commissioner Tony Petitti. Appointed in 2023, he will now remain in charge of the conference through the summer of 2033.
Under Petitti, the Big Ten expanded to 18 schools by adding Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA. The conference also won the past three football national championships, as well as the 2026 men’s and women’s basketball titles through Michigan and UCLA.
The extension puts Petitti in position to negotiate the Big Ten’s next media rights agreement. The conference’s current seven-year deal, worth a reported $7 billion, expires in 2030.
