The Basketball Champions League is expected to become a key pathway into the NBA- and FIBA-backed project widely referred to as “NBA Europe.” According to Eurohoops, the two finalists of the 2027 BCL Final Four would earn direct entry into the league’s first season (2027-28).
The planned format, per the same report, is built around a 16-team setup featuring 12 permanent franchises in major markets and four annually available places awarded through sporting merit.
Beyond the BCL finalists, the remaining two open slots would be decided via end-of-season qualification tournaments in late June 2027. A working target of an October 2027 launch has also been cited in broader NBA-FIBA coverage and official communications around the project.
