Pedro Martínez and Alberto Abalde have previewed the EuroLeague matchup between Baskonia and Real Madrid, highlighting the Basque side’s improvement following its coaching change and the need to remain focused.
Pedro Martínez, Real Madrid head coach
“Lately, with the coaching change, Baskonia has improved its competitiveness enormously. Right now it looks very solid on defense, it’s a very physical team and I expect the best possible Baskonia. We have to keep going our own way, do our basics well, execute everything we practice as well as possible and trust in ourselves.”
Alberto Abalde, Real Madrid forward
“We’re very focused on the day-to-day to keep growing as a team. We’re coming off a stretch of really good shooting, and when your shots are falling, everything runs more smoothly, there’s more rhythm and everyone is happier. However, we have to be ready for when that shooting drops off and be able to keep playing and finding options that allow us to keep winning games. Baskonia is always a dangerous opponent regardless of its circumstances, and even more so at home. A new coach has just arrived, and in their own arena they’ll want to take a step forward. It’s a team with talent, very good players and fans who will stand behind their team unconditionally. We’re focused on ourselves, on doing our things well and being competitive, because a tough game awaits us.”
