Basketball Champions League to introduce “play-in” between group phases from 2021-22

BCL CEO Patrick Comninos confirmed the decision in the latest Coast to Coast episode

Speaking as a guest in the Coast to Coast podcast, Basketball Champions League CEO Patrick Comninos has confirmed a change in the format of the competition starting next season.

BCL will still feature 32 teams, split into 8 groups, in the 2021-22 Regular Season: the list of the teams will be announced in the upcoming weeks. The top team of each group will directly advance to the Round of 16, while the second and third teams of each group will battle for the remaining spots through a best-of-three play-in series.

The Round of 16 is confirmed as a group stage for the second year in a row, but will be followed by Quarter-Final playoffs series and a Final Four like in the first three editions of the tournament.
