FC Barcelona have officially signed American forward Tyrese Martin on a contract running until June 30, 2027. The 27-year-old, 1.98-meter wing, who can also play as a shooting guard, will make his first move to European basketball, bringing athleticism, versatility and perimeter scoring to the Blaugrana roster.
Martin arrives in Spain after appearing in 181 professional games between the NBA (122) and the G League (59). He made his NBA debut with the Atlanta Hawks before spending most of his career with the Brooklyn Nets and finishing his time in the league with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on March 7, 1999, Martin is known for his versatility, three-point shooting, defensive intensity and rebounding ability. He will occupy one of Barcelona’s non-EU roster spots.
After an outstanding high school career, where he was named Eastern Pennsylvania Conference MVP, Martin attended Massanutten Military Academy before playing college basketball at Rhode Island (2018–2020) and Connecticut (2020–2022).
Selected with the 51st overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors, he was immediately traded to the Atlanta Hawks. As a rookie he played 16 NBA games while averaging 18 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists for the College Park Skyhawks in the G League. The following season he suited up for the Iowa Wolves, averaging 17.8 points, 8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
His most productive NBA stint came with the Brooklyn Nets under Spanish head coach Jordi Fernández. Martin played 97 games for Brooklyn, averaging 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2 assists while shooting 35.1% from three during the 2024–25 season. His career-best NBA performance came on November 27, 2024, against the Phoenix Suns, when he scored 30 points and knocked down 8 of his 10 three-point attempts. Last season he appeared in 37 games before being waived in February.
Before joining Barcelona, Martin played nine games for the Philadelphia 76ers. He also appeared in three G League games for the Delaware Blue Coats, posting outstanding averages of 31 points, 9.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 56.8% shooting from beyond the arc.
