At the end of Barcelona’s loss to Olimpia Milano in the EuroLeague, coach Penarroya commented on the game in a press conference. Below are his statements.
Penarroya’s words: “It was a game we controlled for 26 minutes, we were where we wanted to be. And in the last three or four minutes of the third quarter they went on a 20-0 run or something like that. We were winning in the fourth minute of the third quarter and we ended up losing the quarter by 16. With situations where we found it very difficult to defend Milan’s outside game with two long guys like Mirotic and LeDay opening up the court. And we had a lot of trouble getting off shots. It’s clear that playing against this Milan, with this lineup that they’ve found now with Mirotic and LeDay, it’s complicated because they’re both playing at a very good level, with a very good percentage shooting from the three-point line, and I think for the first 26 minutes we had it pretty much under control. And while they were scoring, we couldn’t find a way to score in those minutes. But they can’t score 20 points in three minutes like they did. We are very sorry that we could not win at home because playing in Palau should be a very important advantage for us, and it is a very important advantage, but it is true that we could not win the last three Euroleague home games. The reading of today’s game is complicated because we knew we were facing a very offensive team that is playing very well, probably one of the most in-form teams in the last seven, eight rounds. It is clear that in the Euroleague we see strange results, heavy defeats, situations that sometimes seem difficult to understand, like today. In those few minutes, after controlling the game, we suffered a heavy punishment. In those minutes, Milan obviously did things very well and we were not at the required level in those three minutes.
