The Atlanta Hawks will be without Onyeka Okongwu for at least Thursday night’s game against the Houston Rockets after he suffered a dental fracture in Atlanta’s previous contest.
Okongwu was elbowed in the mouth by Jaylen Brown in the fourth quarter of the Hawks’ win over Boston, with Brown assessed a flagrant foul. Bloodied, Okongwu briefly returned to take a free throw before exiting, and he was missing at least one tooth afterward.
Brown said postgame the contact was unintentional, referencing his own past facial fracture that required him to wear a protective mask. Hawks coach Quin Snyder praised Okongwu’s toughness, noting he “took quite a shot” and would likely need dental work.
