Anton Gavel: I respect the EuroLeague challenge, but I’m not afraid

Bayern Munich’s new head coach discussed his first impressions of the team and expectations for the upcoming season

Anton Gavel has offered his first assessment of Bayern Munich’s preparations. “Being Bayern’s head coach is a challenge and certainly an honor,” he said during the club’s Media Talk. “This is not about me, but about how the team performs. I am responsible for that, and that is how I will be judged.”

Gavel is preparing for his first EuroLeague season as a head coach. “I respect the challenge. I’m not afraid, but I have respect for the EuroLeague, the BBL and the expectations,” he explained. “There will be no adjustment period, so we must be ready immediately. Coaching in the EuroLeague is the ultimate highlight for me.”

The coach also addressed Rokas Jokubaitis’ recovery after nearly a year away from the court. “We are constantly increasing his workload and remain confident that he will be normally available at the start of the season.” Gavel views the Lithuanian guard as a potential leader but stressed that it would be unfair to expect him to immediately return to his pre-injury level.
