Alex Mumbru experienced his first major welcome as Virtus Bologna head coach. Approximately 500 supporters greeted the new-look team on the outdoor court at Arcoveggio ahead of its preseason game against Tortona in Parma.
“We are really excited to be here, with the best atmosphere in Europe. I had heard about it and now I can see it,” Mumbru said, according to Corriere dello Sport-Stadio. “We are a young team, but we will fight for 40 minutes in every game and always give our best.”
The coach will also have Kalifa Sakho available during this stage of preseason. The 2001-born French-Guinean center, who arrives from the University of Houston, has joined the practice squad until September 30 to help cover for the injured Kevin Kokila.
