Alex Mumbrù: I’d like everyone to come to City Hall to support us. We’re young, and we want to build for the present and the future

Alex Mumbrù, coach of Virtus Bologna, is featured in La Gazzetta dello Sport on the day of the game against Olympiacos—the team’s return to the PalaDozza.

“We’ve been away from Bologna for a week, and now we’ll finally play in front of our fans. We want to compete with Olympiacos thanks to their support; I’d like everyone to be at the arena to cheer us on.”

“We’re the youngest team in the EuroLeague. We want to build something for the present but also for the future; we have talent, and we need to play with energy and a fast pace to compete with everyone.”

“We want to run—that’s clear. It’s a new experience for everyone; there will be ups and downs, but I want our fans to enjoy watching us play and to identify the team with a very specific style. Like Paris and Valencia? But they didn’t achieve those results until the third year of their cycle. They built a core, maintained it, and reaped the rewards.”

“The team is improving step by step as part of a growth process. It’s disappointing to have lost that way in Milan; we need to make better decisions in the closing minutes—we lacked the experience to close out the game.”
