Alec Peters: We knew this was going to be our year

Alec Peters, an Olympiacos forward, had an incredible Final Four run, helping his team win the title. Here’s what he had to say after scoring 16 points and grabbing 7 rebounds in the final, following up on his 17-point performance in the semifinal against Fenerbahçe.

On what the trophy means to the Greeks

“It’s something different. When I arrived at Olympiacos, I was so young and excited to see the team and what it meant to these people. Now I understand them; now I understand what it means to them, and I feel the same emotions.”

On his daughter

“It’s incredible to think she won’t remember any of this when she grows up. I hope we’ll show her the footage. My family has been watching me play basketball since I was 5; no one believes in me more than she does.”

On the certainty of winning

“Of course, at the start of the season. When we saw our talent and our chemistry, we said this would be our year.”
