New Olimpia Milano power forward Alec Peters gave a lengthy interview to the team’s official website, in which he looked back on all the key moments of his career.

“The two years in Victoria set me up to be a main guy or a role player. I feel like I had felt everything to that point and I could step in and fill um any gap. And I think Olympiacos at the time was building something that over the last four years was consistently very good. I liked the style of play, the philosophy, the coach, the system and the atmosphere that the club was building. I wanted to be a part of that. I didn’t think that was going to turn into four years at all. I thought, we’re going to get there for a year and see how it goes. See if I like the role. But it ended up being probably the most influential and biggest change in my life from family to basketball and everything in between.”
Now, he is in Milano, a decision that suprised many but in the end was not very different from what decision Kyle Hines, Sergio Rodriguez, Gigi Datome, Nikola Mirotic, Marko Guduric took at some point.
“This has been coming for actually a lot longer than people think. Guys that I’d know had played here. Kyle for example, Chacho Rodriguez, Bryant Dunston, a great friend of mine who I’d also played with in the past. You just talk with these guys sometimes about places around the EuroLeague, situations and who’s trending this way, what is the club doing. When I talk to them about Milano and I played against them in the past you start to see potential here. I see myself thriving and being successful here. Whether it’s the coach, whether it’s the club, the city, like there are just certain situations after playing here for so many years, that you kind of see yourself in. Talking with my agent and with my contract was coming up and wanting to go explore maybe something different, a bigger role for myself. Then you go to the map and you’re like, “Okay, where do you see it fit?” and Milano kept coming back. And it ended up being that we both mutually had the same kind of thought that we could thrive together, that we could do something together. I think coming here and being a part of the build and be a part of the process and take all my experience from being on good teams and winning is a very fulfilling thing. I think this place can be a championship level team and to come be a part of that is something that it’s worth the work. It’s harder than if you were joining a team that already is built and you just go fit in. But I wanted something that I think mentally and physically is a bigger step in in my career.”
