After seven years across two stints with the Boston Celtics, Al Horford didn’t expect to move on. But Jayson Tatum’s Achilles injury and Boston’s roster reshuffle changed everything. “Boston is home, but they weren’t in a position to give me what I wanted — a chance to win again,” Horford told The Athletic.
At 39, Horford cited both financial and competitive motivations, noting that the departures of Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porziņģis signaled a shift in direction. “It was tough, but my family and I prayed on it. Joining Golden State felt right.”
Now a Warrior, Horford praised the support from Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who personally reached out to recruit him. “They wanted me here — it just felt right.” As he adapts to Steve Kerr’s system, Horford hopes San Francisco will be his final stop: “Yeah, I think this is it.”
