Basket Zaragoza is challenging Aday Mara’s move to the Thunder, claiming the rookie remains under contract for the 2026-27 season

Basket Zaragoza is challenging Aday Mara’s move to the Oklahoma City Thunder, insisting the rookie center remains under contract for the 2026-27 season. The Spanish club says it will formally oppose any international transfer request and is prepared to take legal action.

“The player has a contract in force for the 2026-27 season with Basket Zaragoza,” the club said. Zaragoza argues that Mara’s move to college basketball in 2023 did not terminate the agreement: “This does not mean that his departure terminated his contract or that he was excluded from the FIBA system.”

Mara, the No. 12 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, has already signed with Oklahoma City and is averaging 13.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.4 blocks in preseason. Zaragoza says it will protect its contractual rights through “all necessary legal action.”
