The NBA commissioner wants the franchise to remain in Portland but says a sustainable Moda Center agreement is essential

Adam Silver has reiterated the NBA’s desire to keep the Trail Blazers in Portland. During his September 15 press conference, the commissioner said he would consider it a failure if the franchise ultimately relocated.

The team’s future depends on owner Tom Dundon reaching an agreement with local officials over the Moda Center. Silver described the building as one of the league’s least modern arenas, while a proposed $365 million public funding package carries a December 31 deadline.

Silver said he discussed the situation extensively with Dundon and offered the NBA’s assistance in the negotiations. He also urged the parties to lower the temperature, stressing that a modern venue would benefit the Blazers, Portland’s WNBA team and the wider community.
