NBA commissioner Adam Silver addressed the LA Clippers investigation for the first time, warning that he holds “very broad powers” regarding potential penalties. “Financial fines, draft picks, suspensions—I can act decisively if evidence demands it,” Silver stated.
The probe focuses on the Aspiration scandal, involving Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and no-show endorsement deals for Kawhi Leonard. Law firm Wachtell Lipton has been hired to lead the independent investigation.
Silver emphasized that “salary-cap circumvention is the cardinal sin” and stressed the league’s integrity is at stake. Punishments, he noted, will depend strictly on the findings.
