Adam Silver also addressed the topic of NBA Europe during today’s press conference following the Board of Governors meeting. Below are his statements.
Adam Silver on NBA Europe:
“Mark Tatum gave an update to the Board of Governors regarding the creation of a new league in Europe. There were no votes. We have several banks working on this opportunity, JPMorgan Chase and another organization called The Raine Group, with institutions interested in 12 different markets. More than 100 organizations are involved in this process. There is enormous enthusiasm, and we have ongoing open dialogues with existing clubs in European basketball, through FIBA, the various domestic leagues, and the EuroLeague.”
On cooperation between NBA, FIBA, and EuroLeague:
“Chus Bueno was a colleague of mine in the NBA for many years. I believe that, for the good of European basketball, the best solution would be to join forces with EuroLeague. We have therefore developed a systematic approach to promote the sport across Europe. This means integrating domestic leagues, while collaborating with EuroLeague and FIBA.”
