Hapoel Jerusalem has opened initial talks with Kenny Lofton Jr. over a contract extension beyond the current season. The American big man signed a one-year, $1.3 million deal without an option and is already drawing interest from other European clubs.
According to Israel Hayom, the club wants to move early in an attempt to secure one of the key players of its strong start to the season. Lofton, 24 and 2.01 meters tall, quickly became a major piece of the team, especially after Jared Harper’s preseason injury.
In his first season in Europe, Lofton is averaging 18.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in EuroCup. He ranks second in the competition in performance index rating, fourth in scoring and ninth in rebounding.
