College basketball’s new financial landscape has reached an unprecedented level. According to The Athletic, at least 18 NCAA players will earn no less than $3.9 million during the 2026-27 season, surpassing the $3.8 million LeBron James is set to receive from the Philadelphia 76ers in his 24th NBA campaign.
Florida forward Thomas Haugh is expected to be the highest-paid player in college basketball. After withdrawing from the 2026 NBA Draft despite being projected as a first-round pick, Haugh could earn more than $10 million. Rising spending is partly driven by college programs competing against the NBA rookie scale to keep draft-eligible talent on campus.
The other players listed by The Athletic are Aiden Sherrell, David Punch, Flory Bidunga, Jackson Shelstad, John Blackwell, JT Toppin, Juke Harris, Massamba Diop, Milan Momcilovic, Moustapha Thiam, Nikola Kusturica, PJ Haggerty, Samet Yigitoglu, Sananda Fru, Tounde Yessoufou, Tyran Stokes and Zoom Diallo. Each is expected to receive at least $3.9 million through college basketball’s new compensation system.
