The NBA has issued its ruling in the salary-cap circumvention case involving Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers. The franchise has been stripped of five future first-round picks, while owner Steve Ballmer has been fined $30 million and suspended from all NBA and team activities for one year.
The league found Ballmer guilty of knowingly seeking to help Leonard obtain off-court income opportunities and approving a business deal that he knew was a precondition for Aspiration to enter into an endorsement agreement with the star.
General manager Lawrence Frank has also been suspended, while Leonard has been fined $700,000. The NBA has therefore handed down significant penalties against the Clippers following the violations uncovered in the salary-cap circumvention scandal.
