The SEC has approved a new rule preventing its schools from rostering athletes who previously joined the NFL, NBA, G League or WNBA. According to ESPN, conference leaders passed the policy unanimously by a 16-0 vote.
The ban applies to athletes who declared for a professional draft without properly withdrawing, signed a professional contract or appeared on the roster of an NBA, G League, WNBA or affiliated team.
As reported by ESPN’s Heather Dinich and Pete Thamel, commissioner Greg Sankey will have full authority to impose penalties that have yet to be announced. The policy directly conflicts with the temporary injunction allowing RJ Luis Jr. to play for LSU after signing contracts with the Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics.
