Ettore Messina looks at the Athens Final Four with the experience of someone who knows every detail of EuroLeague, calling it “the toughest competition in the world”.
The former Olimpia Milano coach, now club president, highlighted how demanding the season has been: “There were 10 double-round weeks and players also played with their national teams.” For Messina, the playoffs and Final Four make the format “cruel”, but also unique and fascinating.
On Olympiacos-Fenerbahce, Messina sees total balance: “It is a completely open game.” The key could be Fenerbahce’s switch defense and how Olympiacos handles it.
On Real Madrid-Valencia, the Italian coach pointed to the weight of the Real Madrid jersey, but warned that Valencia “has shown it is not afraid of anyone”. On Jean Montero, he added: “Incredible talent”.
Messina also discussed the future: “It would be a great thing for basketball if there was an agreement between NBA, EuroLeague and FIBA.” On coaching again, he said: “I have full passion to return to coaching”.
