The FIBA Europe Cup is expanding, with the FIBA Europe Board unanimously approving the competition’s growth to 48 clubs.
The decision was made during the European Board meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland, chaired by Jorge Garbajosa and attended by FIBA’s top leadership. The new format will feature a regular season with eight groups of six teams.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the Second Round. FIBA Europe said the move followed a thorough review of options and feedback from participating clubs.
The Board also confirmed that the status of Russian and Belarusian teams in FIBA Europe competitions remains unchanged, with the FIBA Central Board set to discuss the matter again in September.
