Cooper Flagg became the youngest player in NBA history to score 40 points, finishing with 42 points in the Dallas Mavericks’ 140-133 overtime loss to the Utah Jazz. The No. 1 pick, turning 19 on Sunday, also recorded 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks and a steal.
Flagg joined rare company as just the third teenager ever with at least 40 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, alongside LeBron James and Kevin Durant. He also tied Mark Aguirre for the most points scored by a rookie in Mavericks franchise history.
Utah took control in overtime, with Keyonte George scoring 37 points and Lauri Markkanen adding 33, as Dallas shot 1-for-9 in the extra period. Both teams were without their starting centers, including Anthony Davis, sidelined with a left calf bruise.
