The basketball world mourns Lenny Wilkens, a Hall of Famer both as player and coach, who passed away at 88.
A nine-time All-Star in his 15-year career, Wilkens led the Seattle SuperSonics to the 1979 NBA championship and was named Coach of the Year in 1994. With 1,332 career victories, he ranks third all-time among NBA coaches, having also led Cleveland, Atlanta, Toronto, and New York.
Born in Brooklyn in 1937, Wilkens also won Olympic gold in 1996 and was part of the 1992 Dream Team. “He represented the very best of the NBA,” said Adam Silver. “A true gentleman and innovator,” added Steve Kerr.
