Bill Simmons has shared a theory that could absolve Kawhi Leonard of any wrongdoing in the controversy brought to light by Pablo Torre.

“What if Kawhi just never knew about any of this?” Simmons asked on The Bill Simmons Podcast. “The smoking gun for this theory is that Kawhi doesn’t want to do any work. He doesn’t want to have to deal with anything. Flip this around: why would they be so determined to keep Kawhi from doing any work? It’s actually easy to film a one-hour commercial. It’s easy to do five tweets a year. This feels more like Kawhi is just not going to do anything… I wonder if this whole setup was designed to even hide the compensation from him.”

Simmons speculated that the scenario may have been orchestrated entirely by Leonard’s well-known uncle and advisor.

The NBA has launched an investigation into the matter, so updates are expected soon in what could turn into an even bigger story.

“I’ve read some articles about how other teams are furious about the situation, get the f..k out of here… Half the league does this. I wish I could say even 10% of the stuff I’ve heard…” Simmons added.
