Tip-off was at 14:15 for France vs. Georgia, the second Round of 16 clash of the day at EuroBasket 2025, with the winner set to face Finland in the quarterfinals.
Georgia started strong behind the trio of Tornike Shengelia, Kamar Baldwin, and Sandro Mamukelashvili, while France struggled from beyond the arc. Despite this, the Blues managed to close the gap with good ball movement and easy looks inside.
At halftime, Georgia led 38-37, and after a French comeback early in the third, Dzikic’s men responded with a 9-0 run to push the score to 50-44 at the 27-minute mark.
In the fourth quarter, Burjanadze’s three-pointer gave Georgia a 61-54 lead, hinting at another upset after Finland’s shocker yesterday. France kept firing from deep but shot an abysmal 3-of-24 to start the game, relying on key buckets from Elie Okobo and Zaccharie Risacher to stay within striking distance at 63-60.
With three minutes remaining, the score was tied at 68-68 after Okobo’s bucket, but Shengelia and Baldwin stepped up late. Shengelia hit a huge three, and Baldwin calmly sank three free throws, extending the lead to 74-68. France ran out of steam in the final minute, allowing Georgia to secure an impressive 80-70 victory.
Georgia now advances to the quarterfinals, where they will face fellow tournament revelation Finland.
Shengelia and Baldwin combined for 48 points, shooting 15/20 from the field and 12/15 from the free throw line.
Mamukelashvili added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
France ended the game with a terrible 6/36 from three-point range, Francisco scored 14 points.
