Lithuania wins the Baltic derby 88-79 vs Latvia to advance to the EuroBasket quarter-finals

Porzingis stands alone with 34+19, Banchi’s team falls in the Baltic derby and says goodbye to EuroBasket and the Arena Riga

Lithuania wins the Baltic derby in the Round of 16 at the Arena Riga, the home team is forced to surrender under the points of Velicka and Tubelis, both standouts with double-doubles, as Lithuania returns to the EuroBasket quarter-finals for the first time since 2015. The men of Kurtiniatis control the game from the opening, with their opponents almost always trailing and relying on the usual Porzingis, who delivered a record-breaking performance (34 points and 19 rebounds) but was far too alone in Latvia’s offense. In the final minutes, Lomazs tried to spark a comeback with some three-pointers, but it was too late. Coach Banchi ends his time on the national team bench with a loss. Lithuania shot 30/44 from the free-throw line and came out on top despite Valanciunas playing only 10 minutes. They will face either Greece or Israel in the next round.
