Philadelphia 76ers insider Keith Pompey believes that Joel Embiid may be signaling the twilight of his NBA career. Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Pompey reacted to Embiid’s emotional ESPN interview, where the 2023 MVP opened up about chronic pain and the mental toll of his injuries. “I think Joel may know that the end is near,” said Pompey, citing the rare vulnerability the big man showed in the interview.
Embiid, now 31, has missed 400 games since entering the NBA in 2014, including 63 games this past season. Despite leading the Sixers for over a decade, persistent injuries — especially to his knees — have taken their toll. The 76ers finished the 2024-25 season with a disappointing 24-58 record, with Embiid, Tyrese Maxey (29 games missed), and Paul George (41 games missed) all sidelined for extended stretches.
