7DAYS EuroCup MVP of the Week: Assem Marei, Boulogne Metropolitans 92

Center tallied strong double double in win over Brescia

With a stellar performance in a historical win for Boulogne Metropolitans 92, center Assem Marei has earned the 7DAYS EuroCup MVP of the Week honor for the first time in his career. Marei led Metropolitans to an 86-81 home win against Germani Brescia that helped his team clinch first place in Regular Season Group B with a 7-3 record. He led the way with 24 points on 7-for-15 two-point and 10-for-13 free throw shooting, to which he added 15 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, a block and 11 fouls drawn for a PIR of 37, the highest of the week. His 10 offensive boards are the second-most in EuroCup history and his PIR of 37 matched the Metropolitans club record. Following him, Jamal Jones of Bahcesehir Koleji Istanbul had a PIR of 36 in his team’s 108-74 victory against Umana Reyer Venice. Jones scored 26 points on near-perfect shooting — 3 of 4 two-pointers, 5 of 5 three-pointers and 5 of 5 free throws — to go with 6 rebounds, an assist, a block and 3 fouls drawn, all in less than 24 minutes. Jones missed his last shot, which prevented him from playing a very rare perfect game, as he had no turnovers or fouls committed. Erick Green of Bahcesehir, Nenad Dimitrijevic of Joventut Badalona and Clevin Hannah of MoraBanc Andorra, each with a PIR of 27, completed the top individual performances this week.

Individual highs: Derek Needham of Mornar Bar, 11 assists

Hannah of Andorra was this week’s top scorer with 27 points in a road loss to Lietkabelis Panevezys. Green of Bahceseir is the regular season’s top scorer, averaging 21.3 points in this phase. Danilo Andjusic of JL Bourg en Bresse would need to score 54 points in a postponed game against Joventut to prevent Green from finishing as the regular season scoring leader. Marei led all rebounders this week with 15. Alan Williams of Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar continues atop the rebounds table at 12.5 per game, but will soon disappear from that leaderboard as he is out of the season due to a knee injury. Needham had 11 assists in Mornar’s go-ahead win against Buducnost VOLI Podgorica. Mantas Kalnietis of Lokomotiv is first overall at 8.4 assists per game. Kevin Hervey, also of Lokomotiv, collected 5 steals in his team’s win against AS Monaco. Rashawn Thomas of Partizan NIS Belgrade is the regular season’s steals leader at 2.4 per game. Taylor Smith of Mornar had 5 blocks against Buducnost to lead the weekly standings. Matt Costello of Herbalife Gran Canaria is first overall with 1.9 blocks per night. Marei, Javier Beiran of Gran Canaria and Thomas Robinson of Bahcesehir registered respective double-doubles in Round 10.
