After a tough season marred by Joel Embiid’s injury, the Philadelphia 76ers used the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft to select VJ Edgecombe, a 19-year-old Bahamian guard out of Baylor. “I had no clue until about 15 seconds before my name was called,” said Edgecombe, seen as a promising long-term backcourt partner for Tyrese Maxey.
In a surprise twist, Ace Bailey, projected for most of the season as the likely No. 3 pick, slipped to No. 5, where the Utah Jazz snapped him up. The San Antonio Spurs added Dylan Harper with the second pick and Carter Bryant at No. 14.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans acquired the No. 13 pick from the Atlanta Hawks to draft Derik Queen, who made headlines with the only buzzer-beater winner of the 2025 NCAA tournament. Atlanta received the No. 23 pick and an unprotected 2026 first-rounder in return.
