76ers do no intend to extend Tyrese Maxey’s contract this summer

Maxey averaged 20.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 33.6 minutes per game in the 22-23 season

Ramona Shelburne of ESPN is informed by sources that the Philadelphia 76ers do not intend to extend Tyrese Maxey’s contract this summer.

Although the Sixers still see Maxey as a key component of their long-term ambitions, they would like to put off signing a contract in order to maintain their flexibility. The Sixers may keep a possibility of cap space in 2024 with a $13 million cap hold. In 2024, Maxey will be a restricted free agent.

Maxey averaged 20.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 33.6 minutes per game in the 22-23 season. Maxey will likely play a major part for the Sixers in 23–24 given that James Harden will be traded by the franchise.

According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the 76ers may trade him to the Blazers to get Damian Lillard.
