Sixty percent of EuroLeague general managers expect a joint competition with the NBA to be created by 2030. According to the BasketNews GM Survey, 33.3% predict an expanded independent EuroLeague, while only 6.7% expect a direct battle with NBA Europe.
Marketing and product packaging would be the biggest benefit of a partnership for 33.3% of executives. Financial regulation followed at 20% and arenas and infrastructure at 13.3%. One GM summarized the broader goal as: “Clearing up the mess in the European basketball landscape.”
However, 40% would not sacrifice existing clubs and historic markets, 33.3% want to protect European fan culture and 20% prioritize European decision-making control. Club owners will meet in Cernobbio on October 4-5 to discuss the league’s future and possible NBA collaboration.
