The Sydney Kings are excited to announce that Xavier Cooks has re-committed to the Club for the upcoming NBL season on a one year deal.
In April, an agreement between the NBL and Australian Basketball Players Association which saw pay cuts for the 2020-21 season, allowed players to opt-out to explore opportunities outside of Australia.
Cooks had initially chosen to explore his options overseas, before deciding to recommit to the purple and gold under Head Coach Will Weaver. A local talent, the announcement is a big win for NSW basketball fans.
“I loved every minute of my time with the Kings last season, and I’m excited to be returning to Sydney to finish what we started this year” Cooks shared.
Cooks joined the Kings fifteen games into the NBL20 season after recovering from a knee injury he suffered while representing Australia in preparation for the 2019 World Cup.
The talented forward played a pivotal role in helping the Kings to a Minor Premiership and their first Grand Final appearance since 2008, while averaging 6 points and 9 rebounds in 24 minutes per game last season.
Kings Head Coach Will Weaver was also pleased to be welcoming back Cooks for another year.
“Despite joining us late, Xavier was a huge part of our team’s success last season and I’m thrilled that he will be staying in Sydney with us”.
“We’re proud that like many of his teammates, Xavier believes Sydney is the best place to grow towards his dreams of playing at the highest level” Weaver shared.
Cooks becomes the sixth contracted player for the Sydney Kings joining Brad Newley, Craig Moller, Shaun Bruce, Jordan Hunter and Didi Louzada for the upcoming season.
Free agency will begin July 15 with more exciting announcements to come.
