The Western Conference of the NBA certainly looks to be more open than the East, with four or five legitimate challengers for the title. These are led by the LA Lakers, who have assembled a group of veterans to play around LeBron James, in the hope of landing another NBA title for their superstar player.
Elsewhere, Steph Curry is back leading the Golden State Warriors, while the Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, LA Clippers and Denver Nuggets could all get involved. In the betting markets, it is LeBron and his new team that lead the way, though punters using their betting offers & free bets on his team will be looking to see early season chemistry from them, with so many changes during the off season.
Can LeBron Bring More Success to LA?
The Lakers have clearly built a squad with LeBron in mind. They’ve put together a group of veteran players that compliment his style and have the knowledge and experience to go far this season. There is one huge question mark hanging over them though, and that is their ability to last out the entire season, and still be fresh for the playoffs.
Russell Westbrook who joined after being traded from the Washington Wizards, is perhaps the most important piece of those that have been brought in to join this team. He was excellent last season, has been for many years, and in this team, could really shine.
The focus is of course on James though, if the Lakers get the best of him, and those around him can compliment that, they should win the Western Conference this year.
Curry Back to Lead the Warriors
We have the Curry and James rivalry back for another season, with Steph Curry back to lead the Golden State Warriors to glory. Last season was bad for the Warriors, but there is hope that this season will be very different.
At some point during the season, Curry will get Klay Thompson back, which should really propel the Warriors back into contention for the west, and the NBA title overall. Draymond Green is there to support the big two, and the Warriors should really push this season. However, they do feel another top end talent short, and didn’t get one in the summer when they could have, so may have to play second best to LeBron and the Lakers.
Who Else is in Contention?
The other teams at the top of this conference have promise and talent, but also questions to answer. Can the Utah Jazz follow up having the best regular season NBA record last season? Will Kawhi Leonard play enough to help the Clippers contend? Can 2020 Western Conference winners, the Phoenix Suns, repeat their feat?
All of those teams could get involved, but assuming the LA Lakers can hold out and remain healthy for a full season, this team can shine, and become the Western Conference champions. Plenty will try to stop them in this deep conference, but all may fall short.
