Thanks to an incredible double-double in the away win after double overtime against the club’s arch-rival Barcelona, Real Madrid center Walter Tavares was named MVP of the round for the first time this season.
Tavares was dominant in the Clásico, leading Real to a 90-97 victory, scoring 24 points with 10 of 13 in two-point shooting and 4 of 6 from the free throw line. He added 18 rebounds, an assist, a steal, 2 steals, 2 stoppages and 5 fouls incurred, accumulating a PIR (Performance Index Rating) of 39, the highest of any player in the 12th round. Tavares won MVP of the round for the seventh time in his career, and is also the first Real player to be MVP in the 2024-25 season.
The second-best PIR, 38, belongs to Olimpia Milano’s Nikola Mirotic, who led his team to an 85-91 victory over Fenerbahce Istanbul with 29 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and 7 fouls incurred. AS Monaco’s Alpha Diallo had the best PIR, 35, in the 88-91 win over defending champion Panathinaikos. Diallo totaled 24 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Filip Petrusev recorded a PIR of 34 in Red Star Belgrade’s win over Bayern Munich. In the 101-77 victory, Petrusev scored 25 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, provided 3 assists, blocked two shots and recovered one ball, all in just 22 minutes of play.
